Operation Northern Resolve (1991)

Following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, public trust in the Soviet government collapsed. Belozorians were particularly angered after it was revealed that radioactive contamination had spread across parts of their republic while Moscow concealed the extent of the disaster.

By early 1991, Soviet authority within the republic had largely evaporated. Local Communist Party hardliners, however, refused to accept separation from the USSR. Backed by elements of the KGB, Interior Ministry troops, and sympathetic officers within the Soviet military, they formed the National Salvation Committee (NSC).

On 12 September 1991, NSC forces launched coordinated actions across Belozoria:
Government ministries were occupied.
Independent newspapers were shut down.
Opposition leaders were arrested.

The elected President, Andrej Volkov, narrowly escaped capture and established a provisional government in the western city of Novigrad.

Task Force 91 and their MEU have been ordered to deploy in Belzonia to perfrom stablizing actions on behalf of the provisional goverment.
