LFX Vigilance

An LFX, or Live Fire Exercise, is a practical training event designed to test a unit under realistic combat conditions. In Arma 3, this means conducting a full mission with active enemy forces, limited information, realistic communications, medical procedures, rules of engagement, and consequences for poor planning or coordination.
Unlike classroom instruction or rehearsals, an LFX requires personnel to apply their training in a changing operational environment. Its purpose is to evaluate individual skills, small-unit tactics, leadership, communication, and the unit’s ability to complete assigned objectives as a cohesive force.

LFX Vigilance will place the unit in a counterinsurgency environment in Iraq, where conventional military operations are complicated by an irregular and fragmented enemy. Friendly forces will face foreign jihadist fighters, Al-Qaeda in Iraq, the Mahdi Army, Jamaat Ansar al-Sunna, and other armed paramilitary groups operating among the local population.

The exercise will test the unit’s ability to:

• Conduct mounted and dismounted patrols.
• Secure population centers, routes, and key infrastructure.
• Identify and disrupt insurgent cells and weapons networks.
• Respond to ambushes, improvised explosive devices, and complex attacks.
• Gather and act on intelligence.
• Conduct raids, searches, checkpoints, and cordon operations.
• Apply appropriate rules of engagement while limiting civilian harm.
• Coordinate casualty treatment, evacuation, and reinforcement.
• Maintain security and situational awareness during prolonged operations.

The objective of LFX Vigilance is not simply to defeat enemy fighters in direct engagements. It is to develop the unit’s ability to operate patiently and professionally in an environment where threats may be concealed, intelligence may be incomplete, and every tactical decision can affect the wider mission.
